Morgan Gibbs-White twisted his ankle while playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ reserve team in early-March, but the 20-year-old is still injured a fortnight on and isn’t making much progress with his recovery. Nuno Espirito Santo admitted that Gibbs-White is “not good” in terms of his rehabilitation and may be out of action for a bit more time.

He said on Wolves’ official website: “Morgan’s getting better, but he’s not good. He’s had a season where there have been obstacles in terms of injuries and not being able to settle down, and perform in a continuous way, but we still have time. Hopefully he’s not going to be out for long and he will be able to join the group and keep on helping us.

“We always train in as close a reality situation as we can when we approach a competition. This is how we work – we train like we play. But, of course, we have to be aware [of injuries]. It would be absurd to create circumstances that avoid us to count on players for the competition.”

Gibbs-White has made 13 appearances this season, racking up 676 minutes of football in all competitions. His last outing came in Wolves’ 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in January, but it remains to be seen when he’ll take part in training with the first-team. The England u21 international has missed a lot of the campaign due to injury problems and it’s caused him to fall down the pecking order.

Nuno has preferred Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss in midfield. Bruno Jordao has also broken into the first-team and was given minutes in the EFL Cup and Europa League. Fans have suggested that Gibbs-White should be loaned out next season if he can’t be guaranteed appearances for Wolves, but it remains to be seen what Nuno will do with him.
