Wolves have completed the signing of striker Fabio Silva from Portuguese champions Porto for a club-record fee, the Premier League side have announced.

The 18-year-old Silva only broke into Porto’s senior side last season, scoring twice in 20 appearances in all competitions, becoming his now-former club’s youngest ever player and goalscorer in the process.

That relative lack of experience however, has not stopped Wolves from splashing the cash on the young attacker, after confirming the signing of Silva for a club-record fee, which is reported to be worth £35million.

Silva has signed a five-year deal with Wolves, which is set to keep him at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season, at which point he will still only be 23-years-old.

Speaking to the club’s official website following confirmation of the deal, Silva said: “I’m very happy to be there, it was a spectacular day for me and for everyone that is with me.

“I think the record transfer fee isn’t important. What is most important is what you can expect from me. That is hard work, humbleness, respect for my teammates and desire to learn from them and the coach.

“I will work hard every day and always giving my best, learning and being one more helping the team achieve its goals.”

Explaining his decision to make the move to Molineux and link up with fellow countrymen such as Nuno Espirito Santo, Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Joao Moutinho, the Portuguese youth international revealed: “I chose Wolves because I, and the people who are with me, think that this is the best project for me. Playing in the Premier League is a dream for every player and I’m not an exception.

“The coach will teach me a lot, and I hope to learn with him, with all the staff and with all my teammates.”

Given the fact he has already been competing for Porto’s first-team in the season just gone, and the price they have paid for him, you feel that unlike some of Wolves other recent young signings, it looks as though Silva is someone who will be being seen in Nuno’s senior side sooner rather than later.

Considering the fact that Nuno is badly in need of reinforcements with the season now little more than a week away, that is probably a good thing for the club, and it will be interesting to see if Silva can make that adjustment to Premier League football quickly.
