It may well have only been the reserves and a defeat at that, but didn’t matter for Chris Iwelumo and Richard Stearman.
While Stearman may only have missed the last couple of weeks with a shin injury, Iwelumo hasn’t had any form of match action since he broke the ‘Beckham Bone’ (a metatarsal in his right foot).
That injury was sustained during our pre-season trip to Australia, but a couple of months down the line and Iwelumo tasted action in the reserves 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
‘Getting through 45 minutes was the main thing for me, just to see if there was any reaction.’ He told Wolves Official Website.
Then went on to add: ‘I felt good and I’ve just got to work on my fitness now and kick on.’
‘It’s a massive positive. I had the butterflies before the match and I was delighted to get out there.’
Stearman who also got a run out in the reserves defeat to Chelsea said: ‘We’ll see if there’s any reaction later in the week, If not, then hopefully I’ll be available for the weekend.’
Vital Wolves Comment: It will be good to have Chris Iwelumo back as a different option, however surely Mick will only see him as a bit part player in the Premier League following our more recent additions?
