Speculation linking Wolverhampton Wanderers with a move for Manchester City youngster and Ukrainian international Oleksander Zinchenko was pretty prominent the last few weeks and it had been reported that we had struck a £16million deal with the Etihad Stadium outfit for his permanent services.

Sky Sports have reported this afternoon that their sources believe that deal is now off.

They claim that with 14 appearances under his belt for Pep Guardiola last season, Zinchenko has changed his own mind on a move and is now reluctant to leave them knowing he’ll get some game time, even if it’s not the game time he really wants.

It’s said a medical was booked in for today but the player has not yet left Manchester and that’s thrown the deal into doubt owing to the time remaining in this summer’s permanent window. Whether we can swing something on a loan basis with a buy option down the line so he can ‘settle’ before a decision is made, or whether this is simply agent games to eek out a bit more wonga we’ll have to wait and see.

Personally, I think the lad should be running to the club if he wants game time, especially given our progress and the players we now boast.
