Wolverhampton Wanderers deal for Northampton Town striker Ivan Toney has collapsed.
The deal was initially set to be a loan move, but would have become permanent in January after the two clubs agreed a fee which could rise to around £1million.
Whilst the Express & Star on Tuesday ran quotes from Wolves Head Coach Kenny Jackett trying to claim that Toney was ‘not one where we`re close to, made any bids for or attempted to take on loan’, the player was believed to be at Compton undergoing a medical.
However on Wednesday another Championship club made a bid for Toney and ever since then the deal has been up in the air.
But now it has confirmed that yet another chase for a striker has ended in disappointment for Wolves.
A Northampton Town club statement said: ‘Striker Ivan Toney will not be joining Wolves.
‘Northampton Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers had agreed an undisclosed club record fee for the striker but the deal will no longer proceed.
‘Toney remains with Northampton Town, under contract until June 2017.’
