Ten days before the season kicks-off, the Championship winners are starting to look like a Premier League side – Tim Nash, Express & Star
Right so when we are losing to lower league sides, pre-season games mean nothing and are just fitness exercises. BUT when we win and win well, all of a sudden we are ready for the Premier League!
I admit, it’s much better to win these games and to win 4-2 over Scunthorpe is much better than losing 4-2 to them, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
We really won’t know whether we look like a Premier League side, until, we are playing Premier League opposition competitively, starting against West Ham!
Anyway now I’ve had a little rant, last nights game went well. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake missed out through an injured toe, but goals from George Friend, Andy Keogh and Greg Halford (who got two). Does indicate that we can get goals despite being light up front due to injuries.
Ebanks-Blake should return for final friendly, so nothing to panic about there either!
Marcus Hahnemann also did well trying to push his way into the starting line up.
McCarthy seems set on the new formation which is an interchangeable 4-5-1/4-3-3 and according to reports it seems to be netting together after some poor performances.
“When you`re in the Premier League, I think you have to change your formation more than in the Championship.’ David Jones told the Express & Star.
“So we`re going to have to look at different systems this season. You`ll see us match things up more, for example if they play three in central midfield, we`ll do the same.’
Vital Wolves Comment: Are we ready for the Premier League? Will the new formation work or should we stay to a traditional 4-4-2?
