Reports in the national press are linking Mick McCarthy with a possible move for Tranmere’s Steve Davies.

The 19 year old who has made 50 appearances for Rovers is stalling on a new deal, and the situation is being tracked by at least three clubs.

A product of Tranmeres Centre Of Excellence, Davies can play as a striker or left winger and has already scored twice this season in 4 league appearances.

Rovers boss Ronnie Moore is desperate to keep hold of the youngster who is out of contract in the summer, but hasnt ruled out loan ahead of a possibel January sale.

Leeds United have already had three approaches knocked back, with their last bid believed to be around the £500k mark, with Tranmere are thought to be holding out for £700k

Steve Davies has earned many admirers since his move from a striker to the left wing, and would fit the McCarthy bill for a young, hungry player.

Whether he would be happy to battle for a place with the likes of Elliot Bennet, Stephen Ward and Matt Jarvis is the question.
