Well that was all a bit frustrating and disappointing.

This time yesterday, Wolves were hoping to make some movements on the final day of the January transfer window, but in the end, McCarthy threw in the towel at lunch.

We`d apparently put in bids well over the odds on several players and yet, were unsuccessful on every count.

While it was always going to be unlikely Stephen Hunt would make the move, Wolves put in a final £5million bid, the fifth bid over the past month, but alas, no luck.

‘We offered to pay over the odds on three or four players, maybe even more.’ McCarthy told Sky Sports News.

He added: ‘You have to do it in this window and we have been prepared to do it.

‘But they either don’t want to come or clubs don’t want to sell. There has to be a cut-off point as well.

Even a last minute move for 18-year-old Crystal Palace right-back Nathaniel Clyne ended with disappointment.

Crystal Palace, who are currently in administration came back to Wolves late in the day, but the player rejected the move. Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle said: “Nathaniel Clyne was given permission to speak to Wolves after they agreed a fee for his services but he has refused to open talks.”

But at least we did bring in two new faces before the deadline with Charleroi duo Adlene Guedioura and Geoffrey Mujangi Bia both joining on loan.

Vital Wolves Comment: At least now we know what we`ve got available for the rest of the season.

More experience would have been nice, more options up front would have been better.
