Manager Paul Lambert has said that he’s been impressed with the training levels of defender Mike Williamson given the 33 year old’s return to group training.

The 33 year old impressed a number of people during his initial loan with the club from Newcastle United, but having had a troublesome tendon problem, his permanent transfer didn’t go well as he’s been out for around a year and has undergone surgery to correct the problem.

His last game being the Championship clash against MK Dons on November 28 20156 that ended scoreless.

Speaking to the Official Website in what was his pre Cardiff City press conference with the media, Williamson’s return to training was obviously a topic of discussion and here’s what Lambert had to say.

‘I know Mike really well from my time at Wycombe. He has been training with us and has been doing ever so well. If he can get another week under his belt with no complications we will see how he is. He is a terrific, experienced player, and he knows the game inside out and will help us. If we can get him back fully fit be a big plus.’

Williamson obviously wasn’t involved in last night’s Cardiff City clash, but Lambert did also talk about Prince Oniangue getting an hour in the recent Under 23 clash and also how Joe Mason and Lee Evans weren’t far off a return themselves, so the chances are there’ll be a behind closed doors game or two arranged with the Under 23 schedule dipping off over the turn of the new year.
