Wolverhampton Wanderers and gaffer Nuno Espirito Santo welcomed reigning Premier League champions Manchester City to the Molineux at the weekend for what was undoubtedly going to be our most difficult test yet following our Championship title win in 2017/18.
We ended the game with a very creditable point as Willy Bolly opened the scoring with a controversial ‘header’ and although we are still searching for our first win of 2018/19, again there were a large number of positives to be taken from the game as we continue adjusting to the next level.
One of those positives was the spirit on show against Pep Guardiola’s side as we probably won ourselves a lot of fans with our defensive and offensive performances. One clear positive for many was summer arrival Joao Moutinho for his own individual performance in the game.
Not only did he grab the assist for our goal as he delivered a perfect cross into the box, he had some of the following fans on social media amazed that he still had critics for his defensive midfield work.
Moutinho – different class.
Jonny – excellent Jimenez – what work rate.

That first win isn’t far away at all. Obviously the cup in the week but we go again away at West Ham Saturday. Thought Helder was great and found his confidence again, Moutinho what a player #wwfc

I’ll continue taking all the positives I can as I’m not alone in believing the squad haven’t yet hit the ground running nor reached the heights of last year and performed how we are truly capable of.
