McCarthy has joined Hull boss Phil Brown in condemning Portsmouth’s transfer policy this season.
Portsmouth could be wound up this week and disappear from the Premier League before the end of the season due to a financial melt down at the club.
With a massive tax bill and unable to pay the players on time for months, Portsmouth’s days could well be numbered and it’s all because of their massive over spending.
Hull City boss Phil Brown has recently said that he missed out on three players to Pompey because what Hull were offering was “blown out of the water” by Portsmouth.
While McCarthy revealed that he also missed out on two players due to over spending at Portsmouth.
“We had a player in my office and wanted to sign him and we couldn`t match the deal that was being offered down there. It would be grossly unfair to name the player.’ McCarthy told the Express & Star.
He added: “Then another one that we were trying to sign and we were negotiating with also ended up at Portsmouth, on a deal that we wouldn`t be prepared to give him.’
Tommy Smith and Jamie O`Hara could well have been the players McCarthy was discussing, but he would not confirm names.
Vital Wolves Comment: I know some Wolves fans are not happy with Moxey, but at least we are not in Portsmouth’s situation!
