Stephen Ward may well have been to blame for one of the goals the Republic of Ireland conceded against Croatia, but he still managed to impress his new Wolves boss.
Ward`s attempted clearance during the game could only be sliced straight to Croatia leaving Everton’s Nikica Jelavic to score during Sunday`s 3-1 defeat.
But while some may point the finger, his new gaffer was a lot more positive.
“Ward was unlucky. It looked like he got a slight tap on the heel and it disrupted him,” Stale Solbakken told the Birmingham Mail.
He continued: “It was a one-off situation. It happened in an instant and that can happen but he played well in the game.
“I do not know him personally, but he played a lot for Wolves last season. He is safe and stable and has good experience at club and international level. He looks a reasonable kind of character both on and off the field.”
