Wolves have very little chance of signing £50m man despite long-term interest – report

|

Long term Wolves target Boubakary Soumare appears to be heading to English shores in the near future, however, reports in France suggest it won’t be moving to Wolverhampton.

According to La Voix du Nord, the Lille midfielder had been a target for the club in the past, but his impressive form has set the bar higher than the Europa League club.

Dubbed in HITC as ‘Spurs’ new Mousa Dembele’, it is claimed that the midfielder will be targeted by Jose Mourinho and his side as they search for another central midfielder, thus putting Wolves further down the pecking order.

The report states that it will cost at least £50m for a club to sign him, so that could well be out of Wolves’ budget for the window.

The French outlet goes onto mention the name of big huge clubs that are keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old. Both Spurs and Manchester United from England are keen, while Real Madrid and Valencia from Spain are interested and Napoli from Italy.

With Nuno Espirito Santo’s side going from strength to strength it will be encouraging for fans to see them alongside the Manchester United’s and Real Madrid’s of the footballing world when they are going in for players. However, they still have a long way to go before they are able to stand alongside them in terms of being an attractive prospect as a club.

Considering Wolves are now into the final 32 of the Europa League and are challenging towards the European qualification spots in the league they may want to add more legs to the squad to keep up with the demands of both contests.

Where do the club most need to invest in January?

Injuries in recent weeks to defenders has meant that Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss have both had to play in central defence, so reinforcing the central midfield or central defences positions will probably be at the top of the priority list.

Obviously, signing someone of the calibre of Soumare would have been massive for the club, however, that £50m could go elsewhere in the squad and perhaps get someone a bit more experienced for the vital months ahead.
