Sam Vokes has ended his four year stay with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 22-year-old has joined Burnley on a three-year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

The Wales international who has won 21 caps for Wales, scoring four goals has never really established himself at Wolves.

During his first season he made 39 Wolves appearances, scoring on his debut and being part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League.

It was a big achievement for an 18-year-old, but arguably it all came too soon, and by October he was on loan with Leeds in League One, his first of six loan spells away from Molineux.

He later went off to Bristol City, Sheffield United, Norwich, Burnley and Brighton.

With a year remaining on his contract his career was coming to a crossroads and it was decided that he would be better off continuing his career away from Wolves on a permanent basis.

“Sam came to us as a young player and made an important contribution during the Championship winning season,” said CEO Jez Moxey to Wolves Official Website.

He continued: “Since then he has found opportunities hard to come by at Wolves which has seen him embark on several loan spells elsewhere.

“Sam needs to play regularly to help develop his undoubted talents and he was not guaranteed that here.

“We are pleased to have concluded a deal with Burnley which suits all parties, and wish Sam all the very best for the future.”

Vital Wolves Comment: Selling Vokes to a club in the same division does make me wonder whether or not letting him go will come back to bite us.

I’ve always rated the young lad, he looked a good prospect before we won promotion to the Premier League and perhaps now we are back in the Championship he could have played his part this season?

Oh well, I’ll join Jez in wishing him well.
