A 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, with a performance that offered much much more.

Paul Scholes grabbed the goal, his 100th in the Premier League and Manchester United did threaten to bag more.

But a final flurry from Wolves at the end of the game meant that all Wanderers fans after the game were left wondering, what if?

‘We played well but I’m sick of saying that. If we maintain those standards, I firmly believe our luck will change.’ McCarthy told the BBC after the game.

The fact is, we have no luck other than bad.

With little remaining in the game, substitute Sam Vokes had the chance of the game. The ball fell to him just six yards out with the goal at his mercy.

But the Wales International who hadn’t been on the pitch long put the ball over the bar.

McCarthy added: ‘Sam would expect to score that chance at the end, but it’s the story of our season. There was a mistake at one end and a miss at the other.

‘But we’ll never give up, as long as there is breath in our bodies.’

Vital Wolves Comment: I can understand what McCarthy is trying to say, we are playing well enough to survive in the Premier League but the results need to also prove it.

But the fact that we`ve come away from a defeat to Manchester United and I`m disappointed just shows what we do have to offer in this division.
