A second defeat on the bounce and yet following this game I wasn’t left too disheartened.

Our recent string of results against Burnley, Spurs and Bolton moved us up the table and we were always going to drift back down with matches against Liverpool and Manchester City.

But despite no goals and five conceded, there were positives.

We were still in the game at Anfield until the sending off and on another day Manchester City would not have had the luck they received from a deflected first goal and an offside in the build up to the second goal.

For the first goal Carlos Tevez’s strike hit Christophe Berra giving Hahnemann no chance.

While for the second Bellamy was offside in the build up before Man City were awarded a free-kick which Javier Garrido dispatched brilliantly.

Tevez claimed his second of the match to bring the scoreline to 3-0.

‘In terms of our performance, I thought the final scoreline was very harsh. I thought we played well.’ McCarthy told the BBC.

He added: ‘I know that sounds ridiculous when you’ve lost 3-0 but we played as well with the ball as we have done for a long time.’

Vital Wolves Comment: Once that first goal went in it was always going to be difficult. For Manchester City to get that slight deflection was hard to take, while an offside in the build up to the second goal was even harder.

But we are out of the bottom three come the new year and we all would have took that in the summer!
