Wolves On The Tweet

“Token gesture” – Many Wolves fans shocked by 20yo’s achievement

Plenty of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have spoken of their surprise to see that Morgan Gibbs-White has been nominated for the Golden Boy 2020 award.

As the name suggests, the award is given to the best young player (under 21) in Europe, with it being decided by sports journalists from all across Europe.

With the 100-name shortlist now being released, Wolves will be happy to see two players make the top 100 in Pedro Neto, and of course, Gibbs-White.

However, while many commented on how Pedro Neto was worthy of his place, others commented on how perhaps Gibbs-White wasn’t entirely worthy of his spot.

It hasn’t been the greatest calendar year for Morgan Gibbs-White, so you can see why fans might be a bit surprised to see him shortlisted for such a prestigious award.

In fact, last season saw him play 26 games in total in the Premier League, while this season he has played just four matches in the league.

Gibbs-White still may be a talent, but considering he has found football increasingly hard to come by despite the club being in Europe as well this season, you may understand it being a bit of a surprise nomination.
