Wolverhampton Wanderers made the trip down south for today’s Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was looking for a reaction to our disappointed late defeat to Watford in the FA Cup match given how that turned against us, but our hosts today had their own script.

They opened the scoring two minutes in but Wolves reacted well and Willy Boly had us back on level terms in minute 28, but sadly they went in 2-1 to the good at the break as they retook the lead on the half hour mark.

With only two shots on target across the game, the hosts made it 3-1 with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game and we had no reply and fell to a disappointing defeat.

We can, and will be better than that.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, Nuno said of the game.

“Our defensive structure was not the best – it is something that we have to look at. After we conceded the opener we controlled the game well and made chances until we drew level. We then went behind and were not able to stand up again and the second half was poor. We left too many spaces and we allowed them to play. Today they were better than us and we have to regroup and bounce back immediately. Our trip to Spain was planned before and we feel it is a good moment to have an opportunity to train and be together.”
