With the September international break bringing real football to a pause, it’s always inevitable that transfer speculation again takes more prominence on the news feeds as the media look for things to discuss, but this week there has been a bizarre story concerning Wolverhampton Wanderers star striker Raul Jimenez.

I can’t help but think maybe I’m missing something obvious here, as alternatively, surely Chivas club president Amauri Vergara has totally misunderstood the meaning of April Fools as he looks to boost the clubs’ media profile.

Vergara recently told TVC Deportes (via Medio Tiempo) that he could categorically rule out making a move for Mexican international Jimenez and he added that he ‘felt sorry’ for Jimenez and Guillermo Ochoa, as they simply didn’t fit Chivas’ ‘profile’ when it came to transfer targets.

“No, I definitely do not see Raúl Jiménez at Chivas, not even Ochoa. I’m sorry for them, but they are not the profile for Chivas.”

Maybe something has been lost in translation but whilst the 28-year-old continues to prove his worth in our top flight, on what planet does Vergara think we’d even entertain selling him to them?

Despite our consistent improvement and growth in recent years, I don’t expect to see Lionel Messi rock up at the Molineux anytime soon, but I wouldn’t be daft enough to say Messi wouldn’t fit the profile of what Wolves are aspiring to be.
