With Wolverhampton Wanderers putting one hand on seventh spot in our final home game of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign against Fulham last week, naturally there has been plenty of praise for a number of players as we dug in to take the win, but the standout for many was Leander Dendoncker.
The 24-year-old arrived from Anderlecht back in early August but there were issues with his fitness as he adjusted to the pace of the top flight game in this country, and although it has to be described as a poor and disappointing start to life at the Molineux, the Belgian kept his head down and as his chances began to come, he seized them with both hands.
With one game left to play, he now has 23 starting appearances to his name, with two showings from the substitutes bench and he’s returned two goals, the second of which proved to be the winner in Saturday’s action that effectively ensures we can potentially enjoy a European adventure next season if it’s written in the stars for us.
With his performance in that game, he’s completed the task of winning Wolves fans over.

Fitting that Dendoncker scores the goal that virtually guarantees 7th and likely Europe given he gave the penalty away against Watford. Great season #WWFC #WOLFUL

What a second half the season, final minutes of FA Cup semi final aside, Dendoncker has had for @Wolves. Surely a certainty to sign in the summer. #WWFC

Dendoncker was superb despite the goal, he looks so good in midfield and has started to dominate the ball and winning the ball back quickly. Very promising for next season. Patricio made a couple of decent saves when required as well. #WOLFUL #wwfc #wolvesaywe

It took a while, but eventually we were able to wrestle the game in our favour. Just seen Dendoncker’s goal again, what a strike! And what a season we’ve had at home. We’re so close to European football, so over to you @ManCity… #WWFC
