With the Premier League now under way, Vital Wolves will be bringing you a new feature we have entitled The Vital Wolves Mauling.
Basically it’s 10 questions with an editor from the Vital website of our next opponents (clever huh?)
This time it is the turn of Vital Manchester United to answer our questions:
1. What do you make of Wolves, how do you think they have faired back in the Premier League?
For some strange reason, I have a soft spot for Wolves – can’t explain it, especially as we were shamefully beaten the last time we visited Molyneux. That was one of the worst United performances I’ve ever seen. I think 7 points from 6 games is not a bad start for a newly promoted team but the fixture list was relatively kind to you – you definitely should have beaten Hull at home, for example.
2. Which Wolves player would you like in your team?
Well, I had high hopes for Ebanks-Blake after seeing him in the Reserves and I quite regret that he did not make it at United. So I wish we could somehow turn back time and save him from the fracture that effectively ruined his United career even though he scored a hat-trick for the Reserves on his return. Kevin Doyle was linked to us in the past and I think he’s a brilliant signing for you.
3. Ultimately do you think Wolves will avoid the drop?
I don’t know. Before the season started I had predicted relegation for Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley. I still think the first two will go down but am not so sure about Burnley – it probably has a lot to do with them beating us! I think Wolves will struggle all season to avoid relegation , you can’t really aim for more than staying up. Pompey are as good as down already and Bolton, Hull, Wigan, Blackburn could all go down so you definitely have a chance.
4. What are your thoughts on how your season has gone so far?
Surprisingly well. Okay, the Burnley defeat was a disaster and I think, sadly, an indicator of how our season will pan out because I still don’t think we’re really good enough to go all the way in both the league and the Champions League. But we beat Arsenal – OK, more like they beat themselves but three points all the same – destroyed in-form Spurs on their own ground, came through a tricky away Champions League tie with three points and beat City. Yes, I know all the jokes about Old Trafford time but nobody can deny that our second half performance was excellent.
5. What do you think will happen in your game against Wolves?
Fergie will field plenty of kids: you can expect Gibson, Macheda, Welbeck, Fabio, maybe De Laet and Tosic as well. I reckon the likes of Rooney, Giggs and Berbatov will be safely tucked away in the stands. If McCarthy fields his strongest team, there is a chance of an upset – but I think we’ll win.
6. Where will your side be come the end of the season?
First or second. Second is more likely, I still believe that this is Chelsea’s year even though just like us they also rode their luck on occasions. If they keep up their form they’ll win it but you never know – look how impressively they started under Scolari…
7. Will you be happy with that?
I have no illusions about our current squad and I don’t expect that Giggs and Scholes can maintain their current excellent form. So second place in the league, quarter-final in the Champions League and possibly a domestic cup would be fine with me if we keep playing attacking football which was regrettably absent for most of last season.
8. Who will win the Premier League?
9. Who will go down?
Portsmouth, Hull and one of Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley and Wolves.
10. Final thoughts?
Good luck for Wednesday, hopefully it will be as good a game as the Manchester derby was! With a 125th minute winner, of course.
Big thanks go to Zae from Vital Manchester United for taking the time and effort to respond to our questions!
