With the Premier League now under way, Vital Wolves will be bringing you a new feature we have entitled The Vital Wolves Mauling.
Basically it’s 10 questions with an editor from the Vital website of our next opponents (clever huh?)
So this week it’s RMc from Vital Bolton.
1. What do you make of Wolves, how do you think they have faired back in the Premier League?
They`ve done pretty much as I expected. Burnley have their home form to rely on and Birmingham don`t concede many. Wolves don`t have such things, so I suspect it`s going to be a season long slog.
2. Which Wolves player has caught your eye this season?
I`ve not really seen enough of Wolves this season to form an opinion, but I thought that Kevin Doyle was an astute signing.
3. Ultimately do you think Wolves will avoid the drop?
No. There isn`t enough quality in the side to compete at top level. There`s no disgrace in that. Unless you have stacks of money to spend it`s sometimes necessary to be a yo-yo club in order to establish yourselves in the Premier League in subsequent seasons.
4. What are your thoughts on how your season has gone so far?
Not good. Gary Megson has spent about £9 million failing to improve the defence. One point from nine in home games against Stoke, Sunderland and Blackburn has left us in our current poor position.
5. What do you think will happen in your game against Wolves?
If I had to predict a result then I`d say a dour draw. But it could go either way. We`ve got enough quality in the team to win, but Wolves will really be up for it, and there`s a lack of spirit in our team.
6. Where will your side be come the end of the season?
We`ll probably just about avoid relegation, but I wouldn`t put money on it.
7. Will you be happy with that?
No. What I want to see is a gradual progression. We got 41 points last season. Getting closer to 50 would represent progress. I can`t see it happening.
8. Who will win the Premier League?
Chelsea. They`ve got stacks of quality and can either play a passing game or tough it out when they need to.
9. Who will go down?
Hull, Wolves and Portsmouth. But I wouldn`t rule us out either if Megson is in charge.
10. Final thoughts?
We badly need a win and we`re at a point in the Megson cycle where it might happen. If you`re wondering what that means, it`s the Ginger One`s habit of presiding over a string of bad results but then getting a win when he looks like getting the boot. A loss, and calls for him to go may become irresistible.
Special thank to RMc who took the time and effort to respond to our questions.
