This week has seen a rather bizarre suggestion on Wolverhampton Wanderers rumour mill, we are apparently working on a deal to bring in former Chelsea and now Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

The speculation originally began on social media but it was a simple poll which referenced some comments from super agent Jorge Mendes, who is apparently Costa’s agent as well and his links at the Molineux are well known and often stated when it comes to potential transfer speculation.

The Birmingham Mail wrap the full story up and the attributable quote seems to be ‘Diego has had many offers to return to England. But only one stands out.’

For those of a sceptical nature, the fact the poll vote asked for a retweet on yes he’s heading for Wolves, and like for no, should have massive alarm bells ringing.

As the Mail note also, there are further reasons to doubt this (and I’ve checked as well), the only things it throws up on Google are similar reports pointing out that it’s a completely unsourced and unverified quote.

Bookmakers don’t seem to have noticed yet though as the odds now say that Wolves are 4/1 in our favour, and this just categorically in a nonsense.

Given how head coach Nuno Espirito Santo likes to work, the way he wants his team to perform and behave, there’s absolutely no way we’d entertain (Mendes or not) signing somebody with Costa’s mentality, regardless of how decent a player he might be when he can avoid getting sent off.
