As predicted Stefan Maierhofer has indeed worked his way back into Mick McCarthy’s thoughts.

The 28-year-old 6ft 7ins striker spent last season on loan at 2nd Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg.

It looked like it was just a matter of time before Austrian giant would leave Wolves for good.

He was linked with a £1.3million move away over the summer, but with no developments, Hoff was thrown on for a 40 minute substitute appearance against Real Zaragoza and that seemed to kick start his Wolves career.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover 96 may continue to monitor him, but he now seems set to stay, with McCarthy naming him in our 25-man squad.

‘He will be in the 25. I thought he was great when he came on on Saturday.’ our Mick told Wolves Official Website.

The Hoff only played a few minutes, but still showed good qualities.

Mick added: ‘He was only on for five minutes, but he held the ball up, kept it and chased around and ran it into the corners.

‘He’s no kid, he’s a professional and he did a professional job – people hate playing against that but it’s good when you’re playing with it.
