Wolverhampton Wanderers may have beaten Southampton on Saturday, but a number of players underperformed and were criticised by supporters on social media. Leander Dendoncker was one of many who struggled at St Mary’s and was culpable for both goals Southampton scored over the weekend.
Jan Bednarek broke the deadlock for the Saints in the 15th minute after Dendoncker failed to clear a free-kick from James Ward-Prowse. Their second goal came from Shane Long who beat the Belgian international to a header at the near post.
Many fans weren’t happy with his performance on the day and believe he should be replaced by Willy Boly when the centre-back returns from injury.
When Boly is back I’d play him on the right of defence. Donk is making too many mistakes and Saiss has been much better at centre back. #wwfc

Dendoncker Neto Doherty and possibly Saiss (although he's been close to Player of the Season for me) as squad players. That's when we know we have moved on to the next level. And that is not a dig at those players. But an example of the quality we need in depth. #wwfc

How many more times do I have to say defensively we are shocking. Error after error, week in week out. Even before Boly got injured it was clear. We need to replace Coady,Donk & Doherty. Come on goody two shoes start telling me how greatful I should be 👏🏻#wwfc

The Donk hasn’t been great lately, he’s at fault for a lot of goals, I’d switch Saiss to the other side and bring Boly back straight away

Think he’s been poor last 6-8 games to be honest after a very good start to being a CB but again as a team been passive

Against Southampton, Dendoncker played for 90 minutes, made 60 touches, won six aerial duels, made three tackles, completed 83.8% of his 37 passes, made two interceptions, blocked one shot, made seven clearances, drew one foul and made four successful dribbles.
The 24-year-old has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals. Dendoncker has played in every Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup game for Wolves, but his spot in the side may be at risk when Boly is back in action.
