The decision by Wolverhampton Wanderers to sell left-back Barry Douglas on to Leeds United – especially for a paltry £3million fee – didn’t go over well in the fan base and summer signing Jonny Castro certainly had some big boots to fill.
With the Scottish international being hugely productive with his assists in attack as well as doing his job defensively, the jury has been out on the 24-year-old as the Spaniard has needed time to settle into the club and the country following his arrival from Atletico Madrid but he has featured in all four games for Nuno Espirito Santo in the Premier League so far this season and he had a particularly fine showing in the weekend’s victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium as we picked up our first win of the year.

Tell Diego Simeone he could have got Douglas instead ???????????????? Jonny is twice the player Douglas is. Douglas great for us but would have been ripped apart in prem. https://t.co/nWZ95GODLu

Otto is a miles better defender, I’d pick him over Douglas myself in this league

That’s your opinion Mikey, mines different but that is what’s great about the greatest game in the world, we all have different opinions

Surprised by this Gerry. From what I’ve seen Jonny is a far better player. Set piece aside, Douglas isn’t that good.

I like them both Gerry, I was sorry to see Douglas go, but I also think Otto is top drawer, he didn’t give us much going forward yesterday & when he got forward his delivery was poor, granted, only time will tell, but I think we must trust the current regime.

If the early signs are anything to go off though, the club may well have made the right decision as many would acknowledge that Douglas’ real strength was on an attacking front. Jonny is more assured defensively, even though he lacks more offensively but with the players at our disposal further up the pitch that is probably a better balance for us.
