Probably highlighted by Ståle Solbakken’s recent comments, Stoke boss Tony Pulis could be set to make a move for Kightly.
Kightly is one of a bunch of players who are all set to be out of contract in less than12 months time.
It’s still unclear just where the others stand in the big scheme of things since Solbakken took over, but Kightly has previously been spoken about by the new gaffer.
‘At the moment he`s part of the plans but he has one year left on his contract and this is the last period of time you can get serious money for him.’ Ståle Solbakken said to the Shropshire Star earlier this month.
He added: ‘So we need to consider whether we do a good deal and get a good player coming in, or if the fee is too small and the player is too good – the player is worth more than the offer.
‘So is it better for the club in the long term that he stays or goes?
Under Mick McCarthy any player that was either worth a significant transfer fee, or held a future at Molineux would be signed up to a long term contract.
Working players contracts in such a way means that the club is in a much stronger negotiating position when it comes to players possible departures, but since Mick’s own departure, Wolves have been in transition and a new manager brings new ideas.
Solbakken clearly feels happy at testing the waters and seeing just how much transfer funds he could recoup by selling the ones who are close to the end of their current contracts and Stoke appear to be one of the first ones to just see what Solbakken is thinking.
Vital Wolves Comment: I think we would all prefer him to sign a new longer contract, he can certainly a good job for us this season, so personally I’d be putting a new offer on the table for him.
But what kind of fee would tempt you into selling?
