In the light of Mike Newell’s recent allegations,Chief Executive of the LMA, John Barnwell has issued the following statement.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN BARNWELL

Statement from the Chief Executive of the LMA, further to Mike Newell’s allegations regarding unauthorised payments involving agents.

If any manager has substantiated information on illegal payments he will always be directed by the LMA to report the facts to his Club Chairman,the Board of the League in which he works and The Football Association.

Whenever a manager uses the services of an agent he should obtain prior written authorisation from his Club Chairman or other qualified officer of the Club.This document should always be lodged with the appropriate League and The Football Association.

The LMA requires managers’ dealings with agents to be both transparent and fully accountable. The LMA would deplore any irregularities.
