Sunday’s defeat for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the hands of previously bottom-placed side Huddersfield Town was the true bad day at the office for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The 2-0 defeat sent us to our worst run of form under the Portuguese gaffer as we made it just one point from the last 15 available, but it would be wrong to throw the baby out with the bathwater as we knew we would have tough times this season and what matters is how we react.

Statistics website Whoscored picked out Willy Boly as the only man to score about 7 from the tie.

It’s fair to say Boly as our best player won’t have been shared by many fans at the game, Dave James’ own Player Ratings from the day told a different story.

Our performance on the day is probably epitomised by the ratings given to the remainder of the players on Whoscored’s system. The top five on the day featured Ruben Vinagre (6.85), Matt Doherty (6.71), Conor Coady (6.60) and Ryan Bennett (6.35).

It’s no surprise to see defence feature highly given how the game played out, but coming in for the injured Jonny, 19-year-old Vinagre was a positive as he stepped up once again.
