Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has, true to his word, offered season’s sensation Michael Kightly a new improved deal, with one proviso, that he is happy to accomodate.

‘Kites came in the day after the play-offs and said he wants the number seven shirt for next season.’ he told the clubs official site. ‘I’ve told him that unless we sign David Beckham then it’s his!’

And McCarthy was quick to warn off any clubs still holding out for chance of snapping up the former Gray’s man following Wolves play off semi final defeat.

‘We said when he came in that we would reward him if he did well and that’s what we’ll do.

‘If there are clubs interested, I would say ‘no chance.”
