The exact fee paid for Wolves shining star Michael Kightly has been the subject of some conjecture of late.

To end all specualtion, Mick McCarthy has finally confirmed the fee paid to Grays for teh services if teh player dubbed ‘ the Ryan Giggs of non league football.

‘Michael Kightly was 25 grand,’ McCarthy toldThe Birmingham Post.

‘Not the £125,000 I keep seeing in some papers. I don’t mind taking the plaudits but I’d like an even bigger pat on the back for this one.’

‘We’d had him watched and had good reports. The scouts and Taff had seen him and, if he says so, that’s good enough for me.

‘For 25 grand, it was an absolute ‘No-brainer’. Eighteen goals last year and ten this season before he came here. It’s not rocket science. I’d have taken a chance with my own money for someone like that.’

If Kightly maintains his form for the rest of the season, McCarthy deserves more than a pat on the back for that piece of business, he deserves a medal.
