It’s a point I’ve tried not to make too often on Vital Wolves.
My position regarding Mick McCarthy was well known before his departure and following it.
I didn’t agree with the decision and I thought we would have stayed up with him if he had stayed.
Our Mick always polarised the fans views, but with the benefit of hindsight even some of those who did want him to go following the West Brom defeat have admitted to changing their minds after watching on with horror as the search for a new manager became farcical and then watched us lose game after game under Terry Connor.
Now it’s the turn of players to admit the same thing with Stephen Hunt talking to Irish television about what has been happening at Molineux.
“We were all playing for the manager (McCarthy) so first of all, it was disappointing for the gaffer. In terms of results, the board thought it was time for a change’ Hunt told RTE.
He added: ‘Little did we know we would end up losing a lot of games since we`ve sacked him so it has probably proved to be the wrong decision in the end.”
He continued: “In terms of when he (Connor) took over, we thought ‘oh, it`s not going to change` to a certain degree, that it would be the same as under the old manager, but to be fair he has come in and stamped his authority and changed things around. Maybe he has even made the players a bit happier in terms of what he has done for us.
‘But maybe it was better sticking with Mick, but in fairness to TC, he is good to play for and we will all play for him to the bitter end.’
Vital Wolves Comment: If only we could turn back time and do it all again.
