Report: Wolves youngster ‘poised’ to join League Two club on loan

According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Elliot Ward is ‘poised’ to join Carlisle United on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old has spent the campaign in Wolves’ reserves, making 14 appearances in all competitions, and should benefit from getting regular first-team football in the League Two.

Carlisle are currently 20th in the table with 25 points from 24 games, having won one and drawn four of their last six.

Ward will have a lot of competition for a starting place at Brunton Park as United aren’t short of midfielders – Michael Jones, Jack Bridge, Stefan Scougall, Mohammed Sagaf, Canice Carroll.

Ward’s move is unlikely to be finalised in time for him to face Crewe Alexandra on New Year’s Day, but he could make his debut in the FA Cup when the Cumbrians travel to face Cardiff City on January 4.

The Scotland u19 international has made one appearance for Wolves at senior level and will hope to impress at Carlisle to prove to Nuno that he deserves more opportunities.

Ward has been unfortunate that Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker are standing in his way of a look-in.

Where do the club most need to invest in January?
