Report: Wolves youngster ‘could head out on loan’ before Friday’s deadline

|

According to Joe Edwards of the Express and Star, Benny Ashley-Seal ‘could be heading out on loan’ before the January transfer window shuts on Friday. The 21-year-old was left out of Wolves u23s’ 2-2 draw with Liverpool (January 29) and may spend the remainder of the season elsewhere – a League One move has been mooted.

Since joining from Norwich City in 2017, Ashley-Seal has made four first-team appearances for Wolves in all competitions, coming off the bench in their EFL Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday (August 28, 2018), EFL Cup defeat to Leicester City (September 25), EFL Cup defeat to Aston Villa (October 30, 2019) and FA Cup defeat to Manchester United (January 4, 2020).

The Englishman has also made the matchday squad in six of Wolves’ Premier League games in 2019/20 but failed to come off the bench. He’s currently behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order, and Leonardo Campana’s arrival may further hamper his chances of first-team football.

Ashley-Seal has made 10 Premier League 2 appearances this season, scoring five goals. He’s also bagged three goals in as many EFL Trophy games. But if the 21-year-old isn’t getting a look-in from Nuno Espirito Santo, he’ll have to get competitive football elsewhere. Time will tell where he ends up.
