Report: Wolves may have to pay €100m and €2.18m in wages to sign 25 y/o striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been interested in a number of strikers this summer – Emmanuel Dennis, Hirving Lozano, Nelson Oliveira – as Nuno Espirito Santo looks for a player to accompany Raul Jimenez. The latest centre-forward on Wolves’ radar is Carlos Vinicius, but the Mirror’s latest report suggests he may come at a lofty price.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

According to Mirror Sport, the 25-year-old has a €100m (£89.1m) asking price. And according to Sport Tidings, Vinicius takes home €42k-per-week/€2.18m-a-year (£37.43k-per-week/£1.94m-a-year) at Benfica. He’s made 36 appearances in all competitions since joining the Portuguese outfit for £15m from Napoli last summer, scoring 20 goals and making 12 assists.

Vital Wolves previously cited four strikers who Jorge Mendes represents that could improve Nuno’s attack – Vinicius, Andre Silva, Artem Dzyuba, Oliveira – but only one of them is on their shortlist now. Oliveira was linked with a move in January but Wolves opted against triggering his £5.5m release clause, so it’s ironic the Midlands outfit are after a €100m-rated equivalent.

The Express and Star don’t believe Wolves will spend so much on Vinicius, however, as it’s unlikely their entire transfer kitty will go on one player. The Midlands outfit need to strengthen at centre-back, centre-midfield and at centre-forward this summer, so they need to be shrewd in the market.

Record via Sport Witness don’t believe Wolves would go above €60m (£53.47m) for Vinicius while the Express and Star would be surprised if they stumped up anywhere near that amount.
