Wolves are interested in Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic as they look to add to their central defensive options this summer, a report from 90Min has claimed.

Savic is not a complete stranger to English football, having spent the 2011/12 campaign with Manchester City as they claimed their first Premier League title, but having made just 12 league appearances throughout that season, the defender left for Fiorentina in the summer of 2012.

The defender spent the next three years in Italy before joining Atletico in 2015, where he has gone onto make 160 appearances in all competitions, reaching the Champions League final in 2016 and lifting the Europa League title two years later.

According to the latest reports, Wolves are keen to add competition for Romain Saiss, Willy Boly and Conor Coady, and Savic has emerged as a potential option for them to do that.

It remains to be seen exactly how much Atletico might demand for Savic, but with two years remaining on the defender’s contract, the Spanish giants are in a decent position to negotiate any offers that come in for the Montenegrin international.

While Savic may have never really lived up to his potential at Manchester City, his development and performances since then mean that he could still be a useful addition for Wolves if they are able to bring him to Molineux.

Indeed, after what has been a disappointing transfer window so far, securing the services of an experienced defender such as Savic from a big club such as Atletico, would be a welcome show of intent from the club.

However, given Savic’s importance to Atletico, and his current contract situation, it is unlikely that the 29-year-old will come cheaply, and it will be interesting to see just how much Wolves are willing to spend to secure his services.
