According to the Daily Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘have asked about’ Facundo Pellistri and ‘consider options to replace Adama Traore. The 26-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool this summer, but Wolves are taking a different route to offset his loss.

In addition to Traore, Wolves have Daniel Podence, Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto at their disposal and have been linked with Edon Zhegrova, Allan Saint-Maximin and Thomas Lemar among others. An 18-year-old winger may be the pick of the bunch, however.

Back in April, Wolves were reportedly competing with Napoli, Manchester City, Bologna, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Almeria and Valencia for Pellistri’s signature. The Daily Mail has added Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Boca Junior to the list of suitors.

The Uruguayan winger rose through the youth ranks with the Penarol first-team in 2019 and has gone on to make 25 appearances in all competitions for Pellistri, scoring one goal and making three assists.

Nuno Espirito Santo named 17 players aged 21 or under in Wolves’ matchday squad at least once this season, so Pellistri could flourish at Molineux. Wolves signed three youngsters in the last transfer windows – Luke Matheson (aged 17), Enzo Loiocide (19) and Leonardo Campana (19) – so it’s clear they’re thinking of the future.
