According to Sky Deutschland, Hee-chan Hwang ‘has opted for’ RB Leipzig. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool had ‘expressed interest’ in the 24-year-old, but he’s now completing a €10m move to Salzburg’s ‘sister club’ in the German Bundesliga.
Nuno Espirito Santo has been on the hunt for a striker to accompany Raul Jimenez next season, as Leonardo Campana and Renat Dadashov are the only backup in attack. Neither player has featured in Wolves’ first-team this season, so a new centre-forward is required.
Hwang joined Salzburg from FC Liefering in 2016 and has gone on to make 124 appearances in all competitions, scoring 45 goals with 28 assists. The South Korean international is coming off the back of an outstanding campaign, scoring 16 goals and making 21 assists in 38 games, so he could have been a good addition to the Wolves squad.
Unfortunately, the Midlands outfit won’t get the chance to sign him as Leipzig have won the race for his signature, forcing Nuno to turn his attentions elsewhere. Wolves have been linked with Gonzalo Higuain, Carlo Vinicius, Danny Loader, Hee-Chan Hwang and Emmanuel Dennis, but it remains to be seen which player they’ll bring in.
