Wolves could be priced out of a move to sign Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer, a report from The Sun has claimed.

Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly keen to bring in Maitland-Niles as a replacement for Matt Doherty, who joined Tottenham at the weekend, and are said to have already had a £15million rejected for the Arsenal man.

Now it seems as though Wolves’ attempts to bring the versatile full-back to Molineux may have got even harder, with Arsenal apparently upping their asking price for the 23-year-old.

According to the latest reports, Arsenal had been demanding a £25million for Maitland-Niles, but it is now thought that those demands have increased even further, following the defender’s stand out performance in Saturday’s Community Shield, and his subsequent call-up to the England squad for the Nations League games with Iceland and Denmark.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Maitland-Niles’ contract at The Emirates, putting the Gunners in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for the player.

Maitland-Niles himself reportedly does not want to stay at Arsenal if he is not going to be a regular starter for the club, while manager Mikel Arteta would rather keep the player at The Emirates, but is aware that he needs to raise funds this summer.

This is something that is not going to help the situation at Wolves, with the club badly in need of some new signings this summer as their squad numbers dwindle, and Maitland-Niles would surely be a welcome addition to the squad.

But with Arsenal’s asking price seemingly rising and reports previously suggesting that Wolves will have to sell to buy this summer, it is getting harder to see this deal coming off right now.
