Juventus winger Douglas Costa is reluctant to join Wolves this summer, a report from Calciomercato has claimed.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Jorge Mendes is looking to facilitate a move to bring Costa to Molineux from Juventus, but it seems that so far little progress has been made with regards to a deal.

According to the latest reports, Mendes is struggling to convince Costa to make the move to Wolves, with the Brazilian holding firm in his stance.

It is thought that Costa is rejecting any offers to leave Juventus, despite that the fact that he has fallen down the pecking order in Turin, and it apparently not part of manager Andrea Pirlo’s plans for the coming campaign.

As things stand, there are still two years remaining on Costa’s contract with Juventus, meaning he could yet stay with the Italian champions until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This will no doubt be a somewhat frustrating update for those of a Wolves persuasion.

Costa would have been yet another high profile signing for the Midlands club this summer, and a useful attacking addition following the departure of Diogo Jota to Liverpool earlier this month, so missing out on him will no doubt be disappointing.

However, you can kind of understand Costa’s stance here, given he is going to want to compete for a place in a team who ought to be challenging, and winning, silverware on both a domestic and European front this season.

That is something Wolves cannot do at the minute, although you wonder if things could change this time next year, when Juventus may well be working harder to sell Costa, rather than lose him for nothing in 2022.
