Report offers encouraging update on future of key Wolves man

|

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is close to signing a new contract with Wolves, a report from BBC Sport has claimed.

Nuno has proved an inspired appointment since his arrival at the club three years ago, taking the club first to the Championship title, and then to back to back seventh-place finishes in the Premier League, along with a run to the Europa League quarter finals last season.

The 46-year-old’s current deal at Molineux is set to expire next summer, although it now seems as though Nuno is close to re-committing his long-term future to the club.

According to the latest reports, talks over a new deal for the Portuguese former goalkeeper have progressed well, and an announcement of the new del could be made soon.

Despite that, Nuno himself was evasive when asked about a possible new contract, telling the BBC: “In terms of the contract, I don’t have to worry about anything because it’s not my job.

“I don’t negotiate contracts, I just wait for an email or a call to say ‘go ahead’.”

It will of course be a big boost for Wolves if they are able to secure this agreement sooner rather than later.

Nuno has been simply brilliant for the club, and it is hard to see anyone of a Wolves persuasion wanting him to leave any time soon.

Indeed, after an underwhelming start to the transfer window, combining this with recent and potentially future business in terms of signings, means that this could yet turn out to be a very productive summer at Molineux.

Add to that the fact that getting a deal done in the near future means there will be one less distraction to worry about when the campaign properly gets underway, so it is hard to see this not being done in the coming weeks.
