Report: ‘Madrid or Barca will come when they come’ – Player’s future in doubt after comments

|

Adama Traore’s future has been thrown into doubt once more after he said he will not ‘close any doors’ in regards to his future.

The Spaniard has at no point been willing to rule out a move to either of Spain’s superclubs, with him telling Spanish outlet La Sexta in December that he wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of joining Real Madrid.

This week the player was asked by La Vanguardia about whether he would join one of those clubs, where, once again, he hardly committed his future to Wolves long-term, suggesting that the move will ‘come’ when it has to.

He told La Vanguardia (via Team Talk): “It wouldn’t be a problem for me [if Madrid called], I don’t close my door to anything.

“Right now I am very happy where I am, the team and the people are fantastic.

“Being in Europe is a new stage for us and the physiotherapists work incredibly hard on ensuring our recovery.

“Offers from Madrid or Barca will come when they come, but my mentality is to continue growing as a player.”

Unsure - it's too hard to tell in the transfer market these days

With Wolves coming off the back of a huge 4-0 victory over Barcelona’s local rivals Espanyol, the club will not be focussed on this speculation just yet.

It’s clear that, even with these comments, the attacker’s focus remains fully on Wanderers.

Being linked to these clubs acts as a good measurement of just how far the player has come in a year. He only started eight games in the Premier League last season, whereas this year he has been an essential part of the team.

From his 25 games, he has contributed four goals, seven assists, and a dribbling threat that many others in the league will envy.

In fact, no other team can match it, as per stats from WhoScored. The winger is reportedly averaging a mammoth 5.4 dribbles per match, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha being the second closest with 4.7 per game.

Some fans might respect the way in which he is so honest about his future, while others could be anxious that he could force a move at some stage. Either way, Wolves have a job at task: get as close as they can to Champions League qualification in the league and get as far as possible in the Europa League.

After that, they can assess how long they can keep him around for.
