Report: Club make decision on 26 y/o’s buying option, player ‘will return’ to Wolves

According to Guimaraes Digital, Vitoria Guimaraes have made the decision not to trigger Leo Bonatini’s buying option this summer.

The 26-year-old ‘will return’ to Wolverhampton Wanderers when his loan deal comes to an end. Bonatini has struggled for form and playing time under Ivo Vieira, so it’s not surprising that he won’t stay beyond 2020.

Bonatini joined Vitoria on a season-long loan in August 2019 and has gone on to make 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and making two assists.

The Brazilian centre-forward hasn’t scored in the Primeira Liga since December 2019 (11 league games) and hasn’t made an assist in any competition since January 2020 (seven games), so he lost his starting place as a result.

Bonatini joined Wolves on loan from Hilal in 2017 and turned the move permanent in 2018. He’s made 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and making seven assists, but his last outing in a Wolves shirt came all the way back in May 2018.

With Raul Jimenez, Leonardo Campana and Renat Dadashov ahead in the pecking order, Bonatini could be on his way out of Wolves this summer. Nuno hasn’t given him a look-in for two years.
