Way back in the summer, Wolverhampton Wanderers fans with long memories may remember that we were being linked with Leeds United defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Speculation about the now 24-year-old first surfaced alongside the rumours that the Elland Road outfit were interested in a deal for Helder Costa and the claim was that we’d be looking for a player + cash arrangement, with Phillips heading to Molineux.

As we know, that didn’t happen and Costa moved eventually on a loan to buy deal, but with Leeds struggling again in the Championship after hitting a woeful run of form, the Daily Star have again linked us with having an interest in the player – with many believing that after the summer rumours of a move, their Academy graduate has a promise that he can leave if they fail to achieve promotion this year.

Naturally, with claims of a £20million release fee, we aren’t the only club being linked with a move but as we look to continue our own improvement curve, and with an eye to the required homegrown regulations, we could do far worse than add someone like Phillips to our options in my humble.
