It was a case of deja vu for manager Mick McCarthy today, witnessing one of his wing wonders singled out for special treatment by the opposition.

Unlike last weekend though, this time the officials got it right, and Sheffield Wednesday’s Frank Simek received an instant red card for his debilitating challenge on goalscorer Michael McIndoe late on in Wolves 2-2 draw.

McCarthy had to be physically restrained by the fourth official following the challenge right in front of him, and he was just as vitriolic in his post match reaction.

‘Even if he did nick the ball – and I don’t think he did – it was still a sending off offence in my opinion.’ McCarthy said

‘People will say I was a physical player but I never did that.

‘McIndoe wasn’t fully functional after that. His leg is in a bad way.

‘I reacted to it but I can guarantee you that if it had been the other way around then Brian Laws would have done the same.’
