Over the weekend speculation surrounding Joao Mario resurfaced and again Wolverhampton Wanderers were being linked with the attacking midfielder.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Birmingham Mail) have reported that they understand he is now nearing an arrival at the Molineux from current club Inter Milan.

The story goes that whilst being out World Cup duty in Russia for Portugal, Jorge Mendes has been ‘probing’ his signing behind the scenes and the expectation is that having been allowed out on loan last season to West Ham United – 12 starts, two substitute showings and two league goals – Inter are willing to let the 25-year-old player move on this summer for the right price.

Having paid a reported £35million for him back in August 2016, what that right price is, remains open for debate but it’s not believed that we have yet submitted a formal bid, so how we are close to signing him is beyond me.

Everton and Bournemouth are also linked in the reports with an interest in him.
