Wolves currently boast arguablythe best two ‘keepers in The Championship.

That’s the good news.

Both are currently injured.

Which at some clubs would be the very bad news.

But the luck of the Irish is certainly on Mick McCarthy’s side in that department having a third highly rated homegrown ‘keeper returning from injury just in time for the first pre season friendly against Wrexham less than 48 hours away.

‘We’ve got a really strong goalkeeping department here when everyone is fit and Carl is an excellent goalkeeper.’ McCarthy told the club site.

‘When’ is a big word in Wolves goalkeeping department.

With Wayne Hennesey’s withdrawal being purely a precautionary measure, it’s unlikely that Carl will get to keep the No1 jersey, but it does give McCarthy the chance to see how far Ikeme has come on since his last stint between the sticks for the first team against Luton last season.

And having fully recovered from his knee surgery, the 22 year old will be looking to push Matt Murray and Hennessey all the way in the coming months ahead
