According to Birmingham Mail, Oskar Buur could leave Wolverhampton Wanderers before the Football League transfer window shuts at 5pm today. The 22-year-old has struggled for playing time under Nuno Espirito Santo and could benefit from first-team football for the sake of his development.

What’s gone wrong for Buur?

Buur joined Wolves on a free transfer from Braband IF in 2017 and has gone on to make six appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with one assist. The 22-year-old found himself behind Matt Doherty upon his arrival and is now behind Nelson Semedo and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Buur has made 50 appearances for the U23s and was promoted to the first-team last season. Nuno hasn’t given him many opportunities, however, so he can’t afford to grow stagnant at Wolves for another season. The Dane will get nowhere sitting on the bench and being left out of the matchday squad.

This season, Buur has made 1/4 Premier League appearances (24%) and amassed 21/360 (6%) minutes of football. He came off the bench in our 2-0 win over Sheffield United (September 14), was an unused substitute in our 3-1 defeat to Manchester City (September 21), was left out of the matchday squad in our 4-0 defeat to West Ham United (September 27) and was an unused substitute in our 1-0 win over Fulham (October 4).

Semedo has started our last two Premier League games (West Ham/Fulham) and was substituted for Hoever both times. It seems Nuno has his hierarchy set, so Buur might as well seek a temporary move away.

What are his options?

The Premier League and European transfer window is shut, but clubs can still do business with the Football League until 5pm. Buur isn’t at a Premier League level right now, so he should benefit from dropping down a division to get more minutes.

It remains to be seen which clubs are interested, but there should be some suitors in the Championship. Despite the lack of first-team football at Wolves, Buur still has a good reputation, so there’s no reason why he can’t do a job with a top-half side in the second tier.
