Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked with Loris Karius earlier this summer and were reportedly closing in on a loan deal for the 26-year-old. John Ruddy was out of contract at the time and the German goalkeeper was tipped to replace him.

The rumours couldn’t have been more inaccurate, however, as Karius wasn’t signed by Wolves and Ruddy didn’t end up leaving – the 33-year-old had his contract extended for another 12 months.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

According to Goal, Karius doesn’t have a future at Liverpool and is expected to be on his way out this summer. The 26-year-old was loaned out Besiktas in 2018 but returned early due to a dispute over unpaid wages.

Wolves were linked with Karius at the same time Besiktas were linked with Ruddy. Reports suggested the two clubs would effectively be swapping goalkeepers, but the move made little sense.

Karius has been short of form in England while Ruddy is in the eve of his career. Wolves only need a backup goalkeeper while Besiktas want a first-team player with years ahead of them.

So when Wolves extended Ruddy’s deal, any talk of Karius coming to Molineux was dead. The Midlands outfit have made their decision for next season.
