Opinion: Wolves won’t sell youngster in 2020, here’s why

|

Arsenal, Liverpool, Schalke 04 and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Owen Otasowie whose contract at Wolves expires next summer. The 18-year-old is highly rated and has been working his way up the youth ranks, so it’s hard to see Wolves letting him go in 2020.

Otasowie may be a free agent in six months, but it’s hard to see Wolves letting his deal run down without putting a contract extension on the table. The US defender was promoted from the u18s to the u23s last summer and has made his first-team debut this season.

Would you include Otasowie in the first team?

Yes

No

In addition to four Premier League 2 appearances and two EFL Trophy outings for the reserves, Otasowie was an unused substitute in Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Sheffield United (December 1) and came off the bench in their 4-0 Europa League win over Besiktas (December 12).

Given he’s made the squad on two occasions, it’s very likely that Otasowie has been training with the senior side in December. He has some fantastic mentors to learn from – Conor Coady, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Ryan Bennett, Max Kilman – and has a manager who gives minutes to young players.

As per Transfermarkt, Nuno Espirito Santo has only three players aged 30+ and has ten players aged 23 and younger. Otasowie is in the best place for his development, so he may fend off interest from European clubs to stay at Wolves. Time will tell.
